The Value of Writing a Character's Journal

The journey of writing The Books of Magra has been rich and nuanced, offering a number of differing avenues for depicting characters and places.

One unique feature that has emerged has been the inclusion of journal entries from some of the characters.

I have discovered a profound value in writing a character's journal, regardless of whether that writing will find itself in the final manuscript or not. Writing from this perspective of the character not only affords greater exploration of the character, but it is an exceptional tool for improving one's own writing and enriching the experience of writing.
